Colombia is generally a safe country to travel in. Here are some “pro-tips” for a smoother trip:
Ask in advance for the price of items so that you are not surprised. In many informal businesses, prices can often be negotiated.
Paying by card work well, for the most part.
Remember to carry cash (e.g. to pay taxis or tolls). In Colombia, the COP (Colombian Peso) is used as currency.
Be mindful of surroundings and avoid walking with your phone out .
Consider booking tours in advance or via the hotel.
Leave your valuables in the hotel safe.
Always keep your bags and purses in sight.
Order taxis at the designated areas at the airport, at your hotel or via Uber. Avoid hailing your own cab off the street.
You can reach the police on 123

We recommend you fly directly to Santa Marta, that is, to the Simón Bolívar International Airport.
You can also fly to Barranquilla if it suits your travel plans better. However, please consider 1h30 to 2h30 travel time to Santa Marta by road.

Great question!
We will already be in Colombia since the 20th of December, preparing. Our itinerary for the period of the 26th of December to 3rd of January can be found here. Family members will be accompanying us until the 3rd.

Yes, a lot! You are in luck as Colombia is quite diverse. You wouldn’t be able to see everything even if you had a full year.
There is a bit of everything. You cant stay by the sea and enjoy the Caribbean Coast. Maybe you prefer a greener environment, in which case there are plenty of things to see towards the interior of the country. Then you also have mountains, deserts, islands and volcanos.
Deciding will be hard. In any case, you will find some of our recommendations here!

Yes, the venue is outdoors. Both the ceremony and reception will take place at the beautiful slice of beach that belongs to the Hotel. But don’t worry, it does not get too chilly at night. After all, we are in the Caribbean.
